A year later, his intestinal pain was getting almost unbearable, and in 2009, at the age of 23, Richmond was admitted to Korle Bu Hospital, a prominent hospital in Ghana (in Western Africa). Safe Food Handling: Four Simple Steps for Nigerian Restaurants and Hotels

HYGIENE is a big problem in Nigerian restaurants and hotels.
Majority of the operators don't care about food safety and have horrifying dirty cooks and attendants with filthy kitchens and horrible toilets that are hidden from the customers sitting in the restaurant and totally ignorant of the unhygienic habits of the cooks and stewards behind closed doors.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) should pay surprise visits to Nigerian restaurants and hotels and inspect their kitchens and toilets to protect the consumers from food poisoning and other health hazards of unhygienic habits.

The following rules on food safety from the FDA should be used for Nigerian restaurants and hotels.

Safe Food Handling: Four Simple Steps

CLEAN
Washing hands at a sink.Wash hands and surfaces often

Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food and after using the bathroom, changing diapers, and handling pets.
Wash your cutting boards, dishes, utensils, and counter tops with hot soapy water after preparing each food item.

Did Nollywood Actress, Kate Henshaw Complain of Expensive Drinks at Concession Stands of Cinemas in Nigeria?

So minutes ago #Nollywood Actress, Kate Henshaw took to Instagram to share a short video and for some reasons she complained about how expensive Minerals (drinks) are sold at Cinema,it really got to her when one of the staffs there told her a plastic bottle of Coke was N300, Damn N300? Its as if they are adding the expenses used in running the Cinema to the price of the Mineral.

Read more: https://joelsblog.com.ng/kate-henshaw-complains-of-how-expensive-minerals-are-sold-in-cinema-lol/#ixzz4y90wXQkY

How can she complain?
Is this news to any literate person?
Or is she ignorant that the prices of foods and drinks sold at the concession stands at the cinemas are different from those sold on the street and supermarket.

Movie theater chains like Regal and AMC make huge profit margins on the sale of food and drinks at the concession stand. Without these gross profits both companies would be losing hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

AMC Concession Prices
Food Cost
1 Large Popcorn + 1 Large Drink $14.59
1 Large Popcorn + 2 Large Drinks $20.79
1 Movie Nachos + 1 Large Drink $13.09
Kidspack (Kid's popcorn, drink, Frooti Tooti) $6.89 - $9.59

How the French Government Contributed To the Nollywood Phenomenon

How the French Government Contributed To the Nollywood Phenomenon

The emergence of Nollywood, the phenomenal Nigerian video film industry which is the largest in the world by the production of home videos has generated diverse interests and pursuits in many reports and studies since the New York Times coined the name “Nollywood” in 2002. But many people are ignorant of the important and significant role played by the French government before the support of other foreign governments and even before the financial support of the Nigerian government in the sustainable development of Nollywood.

The leading filmmakers whose films have contributed to the global phenomenon of Nollywood have been supported with grants from the Fonds Images Afrique of the Cooperation and Cultural Action Department in the French Embassy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France.

Majority of them are notable members of the Independent Television Producers Association of Nigeria (ITPAN) when Monsieur Pierre Barrot was the Regional Cultural Attaché in charge of audiovisual media in the French Embassy in Nigeria (2002-2006). He had a good official rapport with the association and got the financial support of the French government. He saw the making of Nollywood which he gave his eyewitness accounts in Nollywood: The Video Phenomenon in Nigeria, one of the first books on Nollywood he coauthored and co edited, published by the Indiana University Press in February 16, 2009.

Monsieur Pierre Barrot.

“Excellent, attractive, and valuable . . . the phenomenon has become so huge and the videos have spread so widely in Africa and elsewhere that they have begun to attract a good deal of attention. This book is a superb introduction to the subject.”

Nollywood and the Cinema of Femi Odugbemi

Introducing the Cinema of Femi Odugbemi at Northwestern University Block Theatre by Prof. Paul Ugor

INTRODUCING THE CINEMA OF FEMI ODUGBEMI

A presentation by Professor Paul Ugor at the Block Museum Theatre, Northwestern University Evanston, Illinois on Thursday 26th October, 2017.
It’s been more than a decade and half since Prof Jonathan Haynes introduced American culture enthusiasts to the Nigerian video film industry, now popularly known as Nollywood. And since then, although Nollywood has not become part of mainstream American popular culture, it is no longer the cultural curiosity it was two decades ago. It is quite common these days to be asked about Nollywood by strangers at a bus stop, a train, a long-haul flight or a coach station. This consciousness in the American cultural imagination of Nollywood is traceable to the huge coverage that the industry has received in the media. Also, quite a lot has been written by American academics on the industry; courses about the Nigeria video film industry are now being taught in North American universities/colleges; and major festivals in the United States, Canada, the UK, France and other first world cultural circuits are beginning to feature Nollywood films. But this growing cultural interest in Nollywood still has something to do with the multiple ways in which the industry is perceived as a unique cultural wonder quite apart and different from what Americans know. It is a film industry that operates without studios; doesn’t boost of the jaw-dropping budgets associated with Hollywood production; operates with very minimal technology compared to the endless technological assets of Hollywood cinema; uses mostly non-professional actors; and yet is able to produce an astounding number of films every year—1500 films. So, the continued cultural interest that Nollywood generates amongst Americans derives from the perception that it not only different but also unconnected with the American culture industry.

Fly Africa – Unlocking the Potential of Africa’s Aviation Industry

Fly Africa – Unlocking the Potential of Africa’s Aviation Industry

Africans make up 12% of the world’s population but less than 2% of its travelers

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast, October 31, 2017/APO Group/ -- FLY AFRICA, a book authored by Hassan El-Houry, a pioneer in the African aviation industry and Eric Kacou, an African strategist and investor, was launched yesterday on Amazon.
The book highlights how aviation could become one of Africa’s greatest strengths, underpinning its economic growth and connecting it with the rest of the world. Yet today, Africa’s aviation industry lags behind much of the world. This disparity is most evident in the fact that Africans make up 12% of the world’s population but less than 2% of its travelers. This discrepancy is not inevitable.

Reuters Turns Searchlight On Sexual Harassment from Hollywood To Bollywood and Nollywood

Following the #Hollywood sex scandal implicating the famous Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, Reuters reported cases in Bollywood and Nollywood sexual predators shielded by victims' silence. But two #Nollywood actresses have contrary views on sexual harassment in Africa's largest movie industry.

Sexual harassment is nothing new in the entertainment industry and it is shown everyday in the media with the sensationalism of sex in advertising, TV/film posters, trailers, tabloids of celebrity gossips and other forms. Sexploitation is as common in the entertainment industry as Coca Cola and popcorn. Let us stop playing "holier than you" in hypocrisy and looking for a scapegoat and to give a dog a bad name and hang him as in the case of Harvey Weinstein.

Juliet Odigwe told Accelerate TV that she has experienced sexual harassment.
“A production manager I met in Owerri came to me and said: ‘Babe, you are so good. I’ll give you six good jobs that can blow you to stardom, but after the six jobs, all I need from you are six good rounds of sex in return’. I gave him an outright ‘no’. I told him I could only take him for shopping when he makes me a star. However, it didn’t end well.
Juliet Odigwe.
“Although, he got me two good jobs, I kept reminding him that I could only take him out for shopping. He was pissed off and that was the end of the matter. He stopped calling me for jobs.”
https://www.acceleratetv.com/juliet-odigwe-opens-sexual-harassment-nollywood/
But Adokiye Kyrian, popularly known as "Adokiye" who claims to be a virgin told Naij that there is no sexual harassment in Nollywood.

"There is nothing like sexual harassment. Don’t let any girl deceive you. No director, marketer, Producer or film maker would harass anybody sexually. Those girls saying it do so to get noticed by the directors, producers, marketers and the rest of them. And some of them are not even good artists. The only way they thought they could get movie roles is to offer their body. When they get disappointed on account of their own inabilities to put up good performances at auditions, they come out crying that so and so have sexually harassed them. It is the order of the day among some wannabe actresses."
