70th Anniversary of Cannes Film Festival: Alors, Où est Nollywood?

70th Anniversary of Cannes Film Festival:
Alors, Où est Nollywood?

Hollywood and Bollywood stars are on the red carpet at the 70th Anniversary of the annual #Cannes Film Festival closibg tomorrow, Sunday in France, but #Nollywood stars are still here in Nigeria, competing for who makes the front pages on #Nairaland, #BellaNaija and #LindaIkeji for their cheap publicity stunts and bragging rights on Instagram. Snapchat, Twitter and Facebook. Instead of going to Cannes and the Oscars, Queen of Nollywood, Mrs. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde goes to the Grammy Awards without even stepping on the red carpet.

A Tunisian woman is in official competition at the on going Cannes Film Festival, but no Nigerian filmmaker has ever qualified for official selection in the 70 years of Cannes when several filmmakers from other African countries have qualified and even won prizes, and yet we are bragging about being the second largest film industry in the world. We make too much noise without making sense in Nollywood.

Hollywood, Bollywood, Tollywood and other film industries are at the Cannes, but Nollywood is not there.
That says a lot about the shortcomings and failures of the Nigerian film industry.

Happy Children's Day! We Must Save All Children from Dangers and Evils

George Benson and Luciano Pavarotti live performance of " The Greatest Love of All ".

Happy Children's Day!

Only the best is good enough for our children. Therefore, we must do our best to give them the best in life no matter the circumstances of their birth.
Lest we forget, NO CHILD ASKED TO BE BORN.
If you cannot provide for a child, PLEASE, don't have one.
It is evil and wicked to breed children you cannot feed.
No child asked to be born poor to suffer in the world.
Underprivileged children did not ask to be born underprivileged.
Every child deserves equal opportunity in life and not to be born disadvantaged to the privileged children of the rich.
90 percent of crimes are committed by criminals who were born into poverty and grew up with bitterness and anger to be antisocial and rebellious against the society. So, we must discourage the poverty stricken suffering poor masses to stop them from breeding the next generation of underprivileged children who will unleash the fury of their misery on the innocent people in the society.
There will be no end to poverty until the poor will no longer breed kids they cannot feed; cannot send to school and cannot take good care of them.
You don't need children you cannot feed.

Don't breed children you cannot feed.
Acting President of Nigeria, Prof. Oluyemi Osinbajo celebrating 2017 Children's Day with school children in the Aso Villa State House in Abuja.

Our children are our future and they deserve to survive as we have survived, because our parents, guardians or caregivers provided for us to protect and save our precious life to grow up to adulthood.
We should be more concerned about the orphans who have been deprived of the joys of their own parents. We must not let anyone or anything harm any fatherless and motherless child. We stop anyone we see maltreating any child before it is too late.
Neighbours and also passers by must stop anyone you see beating any child. And call the police or child welfare authorities immediately. Don't delay, because to delay can cause terrible harm or even death of the maltreated child.

One of my favourite songs is "Greatest Love of All" by the famous George Benson for our children.

"Greatest Love Of All"
(For All Our Children)

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody is searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

And if by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love.

True Beauty is More than A Beautiful Face

Please, let us separate natural beauty from makeup beauty.

When we see a makeup beauty, let us just say:"beautiful makeup " and not "beautiful woman". Because the real face behind the makeup is often different from what we see at first sight.
Let us say the truth.
Makeup is making majority of women to look alike with the same curved eyebrows and eyelashes.

A male cousin once fell in love at first sight with a lady he met in a night club and took her home for the night. But when he saw her without makeup in the morning, he almost passed out.
Don't ask any woman for a date until you have seen her without makeup. So that you will not be disappointed later or feel scammed.

True beauty goes beyond a beautiful face.
Our definition of beauty is often at the first sight of a pretty face without even seeing the rest of the physique.
I have seen many pretty faces with dirty feet .
To me hygiene is a top priority for judging true beauty.
If you are pretty, but dirty, you are not beautiful.
A pretty face with bad personality is not beautiful.

Let us separate the shit from the bullshit.

To Live and To Love: The Romantic Life of A Nigerian Writer

At 25, Linda Ikeji was the highest paid model in Nigeria, the President/CEO of Black Dove Communications Limited/Black Dove Models and the proud publisher of the Fashion, Modeling and Beauty (FM&B)magazine that is the first of it's kind in Nigeria.

"Linda insisted that I should write some complimentary notes on the power dressing style of former military ruler of Nigeria, Gen. Ibrahim Babaginda."

"We were at Frank Osodi's place with other models. Frank treats his models like queens. His house is open to them. Linda sashayed to where I was sitting and I held her. I teased and tickled her belly button and she smiled."

Tears and Prayers for Manchester

(Memorial tribute to all the beloved ones we lost on Monday night at the Ariana Grande concert in #Manchester, England.)

Let us gather together
Gather round in one accord.
Holding our hands in one band.
Let us hold our candlelights
With scarlet tears in our broken hearts
Let our tears flow for our beloved Manchester.
But our scarlet tears will never go away
For our tears will flow till Judgment Day.

Armin Linke Unframed

ARMIN LINKE. The Appearance of That Which Cannot be Seen.

Armin Linke was born in 1966 and lives in Milan and Berlin. As a photographer and filmmaker he combines a range of contemporary image-processing technologies in order to blur the borders between fiction and reality. His artistic practice is concerned with different possibilities of dealing with photographic archives and their respective manifestations, as well as with the interrelations and transformative powers between urban, architectural or spatial functions and the human beings interacting with these environments.

Through work in his own archive, as well as with other historical archives, Linke challenges the conventions of photographic practice, whereby the questions of how photography is installed and displayed become increasingly important. When the artist takes over the role of an exhibition maker in a collective approach, together with artists, designers, architects, historians and curators, narratives are procured on the level of multiple discourses. He is currently professor at the HfG Karlsruhe.

The Highest Grossing Indian Film is Not A Bollywood Movie

Majority of people in the world don't know that Bollywood is not the only film industry in India and they mistakenly call every Indian film, Bollywood movie in total ignorance of the phenomenal Tollywood that has surpassed Bollywood in many achievements in the film industry in India and the rest of the world.

Tollywood represents the Indian
Telugu-language film industry based in Hyderabad, Telangana and also the Indian Bengali-language film industry based in Tollygunge, Kolkata, West Bengal.

The most iconic figure of Bengali cinema is
Satyajit Ray (2 May 1921 – 23 April 1992), the Bengali filmmaker widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. He was awarded an honorary degree by Oxford University.
Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including the inaugural Best Human Document award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival.
