Egypt and Kenya in Official Competition at Cannes, But Nigeria is Missing

The two African films in Official Competition at the 71st Annual Cannes Film Festival in France.


Egyptian Abu Bakr Shawky's directorial debut, Yomeddine (Judgement Day) is in competition for the Palme d'Or and Caméra d'Or at the on going 71st Cannes Film Festival and Kenyan Wanuri Kahiu’s Rafiki (Friend) is in competition for the Queer Palm in Un Certain Regard section.



"Yomeddine” (Judgment Day) revolves around a leprosy patient who escaped from the hospital along with one of his friends in order to search for his family.

We are still waiting for the first Nigerian film, (whether #Nollywood or #Kannywood) that will make it to the Official Competition of the annual Cannes Film Festival.
No Nollywood film or Kannywood film has made it.
